These are times when regular active lifestyle, exercise and fitness are crucial for well being of people of all ages. Most Dubaities, due to work pressures, have adopted a relatively sedentary lifestyle that is not active enough to provide many health benefits. In fact, it is the main culprit behind diseases such as diabetes, obesity and coronary heart ailments. Aware of this burgeoning problem, the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) has decided to target 45% of its residents to embrace an active lifestyle by 2015.
The ‘Dubai Pulse’ initiative lead by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai unveiled its plans for eight cycling and walking tracks along with two-four playgrounds for children, which will be ready by 2015.

Since the launch of ‘Dubai Pulse’ in 2009, DSC has noticed that the number of people in Dubai leading an active lifestyle has risen from 34.6 per cent to 41.9 per cent in 2012. Its aim is to hit a target of 45% by 2015.

DSC (Dubai Statistics Center) has launched the Dubai Pulse Program, which encourages people to adopt cycling, walking and exercise as a part of their daily routine. It includes several activities such as Dubai Swims, Dubai Walks, Dubai Cycles and Al-Aweer Walking Day. Moreover, the program inspires to engage in outdoor and indoor physical activities that take place at Hatta treks, Mall of the Emirates & Oasis Centre.
